Enhancing EMS Care: Advanced Skills & Equipment Mitigate Delays

​In emergency medical services (EMS), timely response is critical to saving lives, but response times alone do not fully determine the success of pre-hospital care. While response times have traditionally been a key focus for EMS agencies, recent research, along with advancements in equipment and skill development, show that these factors can significantly offset delays in reaching patients.

​At Jackson Parish Ambulance Service District (JPASD), we are committed to providing fast, efficient, and high-quality emergency medical services to the residents and visitors of Jackson Parish. Serving almost 15,000 Jackson Parish residents with a call volume of over 4,600 calls in 2024 with over 311K miles travelled, our fleet of advanced ambulances and cutting-edge medical equipment ensures that every patient receives the best possible care during their time of need. (U.S. Census Bureau, n.d., People) We work hand in hand with Jackson Parish Hospital, Forest Haven Nursing Home, Wyatt Manor Nursing Home, and all fire districts within the parish to ensure seamless patient transfers and care. The use of remotely placed Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) devices in Wards 1 and 4 and automated external defibrillators (AEDs) in several local businesses enhances EMS response by enabling immediate, automated intervention for cardiac emergencies, improving survival rates by providing timely and effective life-saving care.

In the face of a national Emergency Medical Services (EMS) workforce shortage, the Jackson Parish Ambulance Service District (JPASD) is leading by example. Through its nationally recognized training center, JPASD is preparing the next generation of EMTs and AEMTs and making a measurable impact on the quality, speed, and availability of emergency care for Jackson Parish residents.
